Afro-American Historical and Genealogical Society (AAHGS)

 

Established in 1977, the Afro-American Historical and Genealogical Society, Inc. (AAHGS) is a national organization dedicated to promoting scholarly research, study, and publication or history and genealogy of Americans, with a particular interest in persons of African descent. Headquartered in Washington, DC, AAHGS chartered its first chapter in Columbia, Maryland in 1989. Each year since AAHGS chapters has been chartered in various parts of the United States and the world. AAHGS is affiliated with the National Genealogical Society and the Federation of Genealogical Societies.
